Have you ever purchased a piece of furniture that requires assembly?
Well......I was shopping with my sister, Shari, and she suggested that I purchase a book shelf for my new house. I did need a shelf, it was on sale and so I thought this was a terrific idea.
A couple of weeks ago I thought that, with the help of my son, I would assemble the shelf.
Upon opening the box my enthusiasm quickly dwindled.
There were multiple pieces of wood (if you can call it 'wood') of various sizes.
What concerned me even more was the package of hardware. It seemed like enough for a furniture factory.
The best part was the instruction booklet - very few words, lots of diagrams labeled with letters and numbers.......hummmmm...I decided to leave this project for another time.
(Secretly I hoped that someone would show up at my door asking if I needed anything done.)
This weekend I decided to give it another try. This time I prayed, asking God to give me wisdom, before I started.
Voila....I have an assembled bookshelf. I used all 18 pieces of wood and most of the 132 pieces of hardware. The box actually had a few extra pieces!
I am thankful that God cares about ALL our concerns. You know....I should have prayed the first time I opened the box.
Oh....almost forgot. Shari convinced me to buy TWO bookshelves. Guess what I'm doing tomorrow?

Good job!!! It feels great to complete a new task. I remember the day that I was able to fix a leaking pipe in the bathroom under the sink. I was soooo very proud of myself that my poor family had to listen to be brag for a few days!!
You go girl. (But remember that you CAN ask for help sometimes too!!)
I am so blessed to be able to pick up the phone and say " ummm...dad??" --he's much quicker than Mike is, lol.
(But I did mud my last bathroom by myself...pretty impressive I must say!)
I have assembled things along this line as well Roxanne. Michael is always a big help, because he is the builder of the family. Now, Mark has had to learn to do these things....(I refuse with three capable males in the house).
The most frustrating part for me is always the instructions....they have developed those things for MEN who only look at the pictures anyway. I on the otherhand expect to READ the instructions, and there are letters, but no words on the blasted things....partly why Mark has had to learn.
Okay Roxanne - did you take my name in vain?!?!
I'm really impressed and can hardly wait to hear what your kids have to say. How does the shelf look - was it worth it - and should I go buy you a few more?
It's weird to not have you here on the weekend. Althought I don't think Joey is missing Mickey at all!!
I think you did take Shari's name in vain.
Congratulations on your accomplishment. It must feel wonderful.
That's fantastic! Good for you! I have a great friend in Sarnia who is single and who absolutely loves building and fixing things! She's my "go-to" person for anything repair-ish! She's such a blessing in my life. It is rewarding, however, when I see something that needs doing and I am able to do it... it does something to your heart when you accomplish even a small task!
hey roxanne
i worked in hardware at Kmart for a short time...of course no one thought i'd be very helpful! they were joking around that i couldn't put a wheel barrow together...that i'd take all day. well i showed them..
Teena...I'm with ya girl
Since I do work at a building centre, I ALWAYS get people (men) thinking I'm clueless... The boys always laugh when I show these "people (men)" exactly what they need...(when they had no clue!!)
It's great!
Hey Amy..have you ever considered hosting your own home improvement show?
Ahhhhh yes! These things are huge grace growers! I always pass them off to Sid and they always test his patience...............
I just can't do them, I'm busy being a princess.............
Roxanne,
Never a tv show..but now that you say it, maybe a home improvement blog...hmmmm....
I thankful to have a daughter that understands diagrams, letters and pictures. Whenever we need something put together we call out for MacKenzie!
Hum Roxanne - no new posts. Are you bogged down trying to assemble that second book shelf. Does your son know yet of your great accomplishment?
OH ROXANNE...where are you?
Roxanne....so....what is new??
